The skin in the breast area is often criminally neglected during the daily beauty routine. Our décolleté needs extra care, otherwise the traces of age will show up here first. We have talked to a dermatologist about the tricks that are best suited to prevent wrinkles and age spots in the décolleté area and the treatment options available.
Why does the décolleté become wrinkled so quickly?
The décolleté area is particularly sensitive and therefore very prone to wrinkles and age spots. The reason: the skin is particularly thin at this point, as the Munich dermatologist Dr. Timm Golüke confirms. It lacks sebaceous glands which ensure that the surface is supplied with oil and moisture. Therefore, it needs a lot of care – which it often does not get. While the face is cheerfully creamed with all kinds of anti-wrinkle products and sun protection, body lotion is not used as often. This can be fatal for the thin skin on the décolleté, the consequences can be wrinkles as well as reddish and dark pigmentation spots.
But it is not only the lack of care that is to blame for the rapid aging process of the skin in the décolleté, the sleeping position is also very decisive: “When women sleep sideways, they risk additional wrinkles in the décolleté area due to the weight of their breasts,” explains Dr. Golüke. According to him, the constant wearing of a push-up bra is also problematic. The reason: if the bust is always pushed up, the elasticity of the skin decreases in the long run, which can also be the cause of wrinkled skin in the décolleté area.
How can wrinkled décolleté be prevented?
Women can prevent it by not sleeping on their sides, by not wearing push-ups too often – and above all with the right care: the décolleté should be treated with body lotion at least once a day to prevent the skin from becoming too dry – even at a young age. “Sun protection is also very important,” adds the dermatologist. “On the one hand to prevent melanoma and on the other hand because otherwise the skin in the breast area quickly becomes blotchy.”
Wrinkled décolleté – what are the treatment options?
► Injections with non-crosslinked hyaluronic acid
Uncrosslinked hyaluronic acid can help with light wrinkles. It gently lays itself into the small wrinkles and thus fills them up. Women have to pay about 300 Euros per injection for this, the effect lasts for about half a year.
► Own blood therapy (PRP)
Sounds strange, but it helps: a therapy with the patient’s own blood helps wrinkled, tired skin in the décolleté area to get back on track. To do this, the patient’s own blood is drawn off, centrifuged and mixed with hyaluronic acid in a tube as plasma. The skin is treated with the solution and with the help of a so-called “mesopistol”. The aim is to stimulate collagen production in the skin cells. To do this, you first have to pay 350 euros twice – two sessions are necessary at the beginning – “but this has to be repeated at certain intervals,” explains Dr. Golüke.
In the case of discoloration in the décolleté, an IPL treatment makes sense. Here, a special IPL device applies light in different wavelengths to the skin, which brightens the more pigmented areas visible as spots so much that they optically disappear. At the same time a new formation of collagen is stimulated. According to Dr. Golüke, an IPL treatment could also help in the case of so-called poikiloderma, in which differently coloured spots appear. About 200 euros per session should be planned for this. Two to three sessions are necessary in a “season close to the sun”, he advises.
