With its tiny needles, the Microdermabrasion Facial Roller causes micro-injuries in the skin. This is intended to stimulate collagen production. Will you get a smoother skin by microneedling?
Microdermabrasion Facial Roller is the name of the device and it looks absolutely harmless at first glance. It is only on closer inspection that one discovers the countless tiny needles that sit on the roller. If you work with the small torture instrument face or body, then it peeks neatly. The skin reddens, individual drops of blood glisten. This doesn’t sound tempting – and yet there are more and more people who voluntarily go under the Microdermabrasion Facial Roller and pay money for it. The device is used in “microneedling“, a new process for skin smoothing.
“Microneedling is still relatively low in Germany, but it is already very popular in emerging countries such as India in the US because it is simple and relatively cheap, but it achieves good results,” says Dr. M. Stewer of the Association of Dermatologists.
At least 1000 Euros for the makeover with the Dermaroller
Properly applied, microneedling with the Microdermabrasion Facial Roller can reduce acne scars, pregnancy strips, cellulite and facial wrinkles. Some doctors, advertise the microneedling treatments as a “reset button for skin aging”. A rather tempting thought for many men and women, even if several consecutive treatments with the Microdermabrasion Facial Roller can cost 1,000 euros or more.
The procedure stimulates the formation of collagen, a substance that is crucial for a fresh and firm skin. Although the human body forms collagen until the end of life, the production of the protein substance decreases over the years. However, the body’s own collagen production gets back on track at any time when the skin has to form scars. And at this point, the Microdermabrasion Facial Roller comes into play, inflicting numerous micro-injuries on the skin.
Collagen production is sustainably boosted
To be precise, there are 2600 holes, on the size of a matchbox, which line up after a treatment. The body now produces the desired substance in high amounts, small wrinkles disappear and scar tissue is smoothed. New scars do not arise, the injuries are far too small. “You often see first successes immediately. Since collagen production is sustainably boosted over several months, it usually takes four to six weeks before you see the final result,” says Michael Schmidt-Kulbe, who offers the procedure in his Berlin practice. Three to four treatments at intervals of several weeks are usually necessary to tighten or refine the skin clearly visible. Often the procedure is combined with the administration of vitamin A, vitamin C or hyaluronic ointments, which are supposed to provide an additional rejuvenation kick.
Pain despite anaesthetic ointment
“Everyone who decides to proceed should know that this is absolutely not a spa treatment,” Schmidt-Kulbe warns. Although the skin of the patients is made largely insensitive with an anaesthetic ointment, the collagen-promoting peeing with the Microdermabrasion Facial Roller on the face is nevertheless too painfully felt and anything but pleasant. After that, “the skin works,” as the doctors explain, and patients feel that the treated parts are glowing. This is, of course, a good sign, but it leads to slight swelling and a deep red face color, with which only people with an extremely stable self-confidence are allowed to venture into the public eye. So going to needling before an upcoming rendezvous is a very bad idea.
In case of active acne, microneedling is not suitable
The next day the skin looks usually already much better, the last redness are completely gone after a few days. “The best results are achieved by microneedling in small acne scars,” says Dr. M. Stewer. However, the microneedling procedure is not suitable in people who suffer from active acne, have problems with the formation of scars or take blood-thinning medications.
“Anyone who chooses microneedling should contact doctors who already have experience with the procedure. This is the case with most dermatologists who specialize in aesthetic treatments,” says Dr Stewer. Often the beauticians, who are employed in the medical practices and in beauty clinics, also carry out the treatments with the Microdermabrasion Facial Roller. The procedure may not be used at cosmetic institutes affiliated with non-medical institutions.
Dermaroller
The needles of the Microdermabrasion Facial Roller have a length of 0.5 to 2 millimeters, depending on the body region. For the treatment of the forehead region, the short needles are used, it is a matter of smoothing pregnancy strips, then the needles must penetrate deeper skin layers and therefore be longer. Microneedling tools that are explicitly sold for home use are also available on the market. They have very short needles that penetrate only superficially. These scooters do not achieve the same effect as a medical microneedling, they look more like a massager.
Collagen:
From the age of 35 to 40 years, the production of the protein substance decreases. In addition, the cells of the existing collagen become porous, hard and thin over time. The result: the skin loses its elasticity, suppleness and elasticity and forms wrinkles. For years, the cosmetics industry has been trying to transport collagen and the skin with ever new creams and mixtures, thus influencing the aging processes. However, it is now known that collagen fed from the outside cannot replace the “old” collagen cells, since the human organism is not able to process proteins from the body. In addition, creams and ampoules only work in the outer layers of the skin. The deeper layers of the skin, which are mainly responsible for the healthy and fresh appearance of the skin, are not achieved by anti-aging cosmetics.
